Ravens Move on Lamar Backup 'Bus-Driver' QB Leaves Cowboys Stunned

The Baltimore Ravens went out to look for a backup quarterback for Lamar Jackson and they found one with plenty of game experience.

The Ravens agreed to terms Sunday morning with last year's starter for the Dallas Cowboys, Cooper Rush. Rush stepped in for Dak Prescott in the beginning of the season when he exited with an injury and was placed on injured reserve.

The two-year, $12.2 million deal was first announced on social media by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Ton Pelissero.

Rush played extensively for the Cowboys last season and led them to a 4-4 record as a starter. He appeared in 12 games. He threw for 3,463 yards as a fill-in starter and tossed 20 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

Rush will replace Josh Johnson, who was the backup to Jackson last season.

The Cowboys allowed third-string quarterback Trey Lance to take all of the snaps in their final game of the season, which denied Rush a $250,000 bonus he would have received for playing time incentives. That may have left a bad taste in his mouth and that of several of his teammates.

Cowboys' owner and general manager Jerry Jones said after the game he was unaware of how close Rush was to attaining the bonus, despite it being in the news all week prior to the game.

Jones and the Cowboys do/did have the option of paying the bonus nevertheless.

Rush had signed a two-year contract with the Cowboys, which he played under last season. He gets a healthy raise this season as he made $2.5 million last year without incentives. He attained one $250,000 incentive, but missed out on the second.

Are the Cowboys stunned that Rush is gone? No. Is the fact that their long-time $1 million APY guy might make six times that in Baltimore? Surely.
