Random Ramsdom: He’s the winningest GM in franchise history

About one week ago I asked if Les Snead should be given some grace if this upcoming NFL draft didn’t go well, and here we are in the future where it’s been brought to my attention that Les Snead is one of (if not) the most successful general manager the Los Angeles Rams have had.

When L.A. fired Jeff Fisher years ago, I thought for sure Snead would be out as well, but Snead stayed on, worked to hire Sean McVay and the rest is history. Now, Snead can continue to pile on the accolades until he’s removed from his position, or decides to walk away on his own accord.

Snead’s career is one worth watching, and when he walks away he should have plenty of knowledge to share.

‘I call it fortunate, because it would take longevity to earn that’: Les Snead is winningest general manager in Rams franchise history (therams.com)

“Entering his 14th season overseeing the Rams’ personnel decisions, Snead has contributed to a combined 119 wins across the regular season and playoffs in his tenure, making him the winningest GM in franchise history. He has accumulated an overall regular season record of 111-100-1 through his 13 years on the job.

“I call it fortunate, because it would take longevity to earn that,” Snead continued. “So that would be the (thing), right, fortunate, because you can try your best, you can be somewhat good, you can provide an edge, but boy, there’s so many bounces of the ball that had to go your way. And then the other part would be, being fortunate to be around a lot of good people to help it, help you get to this point as an individual.

“Football is not a one-person show. At all.”

Ex-NFL GM Mike Mayock explains why Rams would be perfect landing spot for QB Jalen Milroe (ramswire)

“Most people around the league think he’s a project, and I don’t disagree. They also think he’s got an exciting skillset, and again, I don’t disagree. I don’t think he’s going to go until the second day, and to me the best place for him to land would be the Los Angeles Rams. They have no second-round pick, but I love the fact they’ve got two thirds, and maybe they can go get this kid,” Mayock said in an interview with Betway.Mayock continued, explaining how Stafford could help Milroe develop as a passer, while also pointing out how Milroe can actually help Stafford, too.

“You get him in L.A. playing behind Matthew Stafford, learning every day, similar to a Green Bay situation with an aging quarterback,” he said. “What a veteran quarterback will do for a rookie is they’ll use him to help them prepare every week. Stafford would go to Milroe and say, ‘I’m going to get all the blitz coverages for the last four weeks, but I want you to go back and pull everything off the tape, and if there’s anything different, I want to see you edit it and present it to me in two days.’ Veteran quarterbacks look at young guys as another opportunity to help them prepare every week, but in doing so it helps the young quarterback learn.”

Rams give Matthew Stafford 2 weapons in new 3-round mock draft (ramswire)

“The Los Angeles Rams’ first three picks will be critical for both the short- and long-term future of the team. General manager Les Snead has hit on a lot of rookies over the past three years, but the Rams enter an interesting time as a win-now contender with an aging quarterback and a young defense.

If the Rams are serious about pushing for a Super Bowl in 2025, they’ll need to find Week 1 contributors on both sides of the ball with their first and third-round picks (L.A. doesn’t have a 2025 second as of this writing after trading up for Braden Fiske in 2024).

Pro Football Network’s Jacob Infante went through the first three rounds of the draft and predicted every pick for ever team. The Rames came away with a receiver, linebacker and tight end.”
