Rams Rookie Named Non-First Round Pick Who Can Impact Day 1

The Rams’ offensive weapons will look slightly different heading into the 2025-26 season.

Rams Rookie Named Non-First Round Pick Who Can Impact Day 1

Signing a three-time All-Pro wide receiver to replace Cooper Kupp and adding a tight end to the team through the 2025 NFL Draft.

Los Angeles picked their first player in the draft in the second round, selecting tight end Terrance Ferguson. Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski names the 22-year-old as a non-first-round player who can impact their new team on day one.

“The Los Angeles Rams haven’t had a significant threat at tight end since Sean McVay became head coach. But they should have one now in this year’s 46th overall pick, Terrance Ferguson. Tyler Higbee has been rock solid throughout his career, but he’s now 32 years old after missing all but three games last season,” Sobleski wrote. “Ferguson is a better athlete and more natural receiver upon entering the professional ranks. He caught 85 passes for 1,005 yards and nine touchdowns over the last two seasons with the Oregon Ducks. Furthermore, the professional game doesn’t appear to be too big for him.”

“The Rams should look a little different this fall, with a heavier emphasis on 12 personnel so both Higbee and Ferguson can be utilized. The latter can help create mismatches over the middle of the field, while Puka Nacua and Davante Adams dominate reps at wide receiver.”

Ferguson played four collegiate seasons at the University of Oregon, racking up 1,537 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was listed as the fifth-best tight end by Pro Football Focus.

The biggest story currently surrounding the LA Rams is quarterback Matthew Stafford dealing with back soreness and currently not practicing at training camp.

According to McVay, Stafford will be week to week, with Terrance Ferguson having to form chemistry with backup quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett for the time being.

McVay said he doesn’t have any reason for concern about Stafford’s injury. Nonetheless, this could affect the development of Ferguson into the squad.

With Higbee and two more tight ends in the room, the former Oregon Duck may find himself having a harder time getting first-team snaps and eventually gametime.

When translating on the field, the pair may be off due to Stafford’s absence. The QB is reportedly still attending meetings, but not practicing.

Ferguson has been impressing his new coaching staff so far throughout offseason training.

“Terrance has been good,” McVay said, via Rams Wire. “Really, today was the first day that we could do 11-on-11. These guys got here a couple weeks ago, seen a guy that’s been really attentive in meetings, got a really good feel… but just been really impressed with him and really the rookie class as a whole.”

Regardless of who is throwing the ball, Ferguson has been using OTAs and now (full-padded) training camps to boost his place in the tight end depth chart.
