The Los Angeles Rams and running back Kyren Williams agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract, which sees the player stay until the 2028-29 season.
“It feels amazing,” the running back said about how it felt to get the extension done.
Williams recorded back-to-back 1,000+ rushing and 12+ rushing touchdowns seasons for the Rams.
The former fifth-round draft pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has been able to cement himself as one of the better running backs in the league over the past two seasons, having earned himself a Pro Bowl nod.
With an AAV of $11 million per season, Williams becomes the 7th highest-paid RB in the league.
“This whole day is kind of surreal. I’ll never forget this day, but this is the day I kind of worked for my whole life. I knew I was gonna be here. I didn’t know when, I didn’t know how, I didn’t know what the outcome was gonna be, but I’m here,” the running back said.
“I just want to say thank you to everybody that played a part in making it happen. But for me, it means everything. It means a whole lot that this organization believes in me. And, I’m going to continue keep giving them everything that I have in my soul to make sure that they know that.”
Williams did not hold out of the team’s practices throughout the offseason despite looking to extend his contract with Los Angeles.
Sean McVay on Kyren Williams Extension

The Rams held their first joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 5th and head coach Sean McVay shouted out the recently extended earlier in his media availability.
“Great representation of a guy that represents and epitomizes everything we want to be about,” McVay said. “How he wanted to still be here… And when you see how happy, authentically, his coaches, his teammates are for him, you feel really good for him. The best part about it is he’ll continue to do what he’s done.”
McVay mentioned that Williams has earned the contract, becoming the first Rams running back to get a contract extension after Todd Gurley.
The former Notre Dame Fighting Irish ran for 1,299 yards, the 7th most in the NFL, and rushed for 14 touchdowns, tied for 5th last season. Williams also recorded two receiving TDs last season.
Possible Increase Workload

The Los Angeles Rams have been without quarterback Matthew Stafford in the early part of training camp.
The QB is dealing with a back injury and hasn’t been practicing with the team, with the severity of the injury currently undisclosed. With Stafford TBD for the foreseeable future, the Rams could go heavy on the run game in his absence.
The Rams currently have 6 RBs on the current 90-man roster (with roster cuts soon), Kyren Williams will see the bulk of the runs.
The running back had the third-most carries last season with the Rams, only missing one game (rest) and could see a possible increased workload early in the season.
