Rams’ Matthew Stafford Earns Eighth Career Spot on NFL Top 100

Matthew Stafford continues to earn the respect of his peers. The veteran Los Angeles Rams quarterback has once again been named to the NFL’s Top 100 Players list, coming in at No. 59 for the 2025 edition — the eighth time he’s been voted onto the annual player-driven ranking.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford makes NFL's Top 100 list for eighth time

Stafford’s appearance marks the second Rams player named to this year’s list, joining running back Kyren Williams, who landed at No. 85.

Despite dropping from No. 42 in 2024, Stafford put together a high-level campaign last season. At 36 years old, he threw for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns in 16 starts, and led Los Angeles to the NFC Divisional round.

“Stafford has been playing in the NFL since some of his teammates were in elementary school, and yet the 37-year-old quarterback has shown he still has the chops to compete with the best,” Coral Smith of NFL.com wrote on July 28. “Though his stats took a bit of downturn from his Pro Bowl season in 2023, Stafford led the Rams back to the playoffs last season, defeating the Vikings before falling just short of taking down the eventual Super Bowl-champion Eagles in snowy conditions. Stafford’s future in Los Angeles appeared murky in the early stages of this offseason as the QB put out feelers to see if moving on was the right move. But he eventually decided to stick with the Rams, taking a hometown discount to stay in Los Angeles for at least 2025, his 17th NFL season. And as head coach Sean McVay has said, if the Rams had it their way Stafford would keep on playing in L.A for a least a few more years.

NFL Pro Insight for Stafford: Matthew Stafford executed 67 designed rollouts this past season, the second-most in the NFL, completing 48 of 66 passes (72.7%) for 437 yards (second-most) and an NFL-leading nine touchdowns without a single interception.”

Entering his 17th season, Stafford remains one of the most respected and enduring passers in the league.

Stafford Still Playing Elite Football

The experience and longevity Stafford continues to bring under center hasn’t gone unnoticed around the NFL.

“I grew up in Texas, so I’ve known about Matt Stafford since his days at Highland Park,” said Eagles’ All-Pro tackle Lane Johnson. “He’s probably one of the greatest arm talents that’s been around the league. I know Mahomes gets a lot of credit with the no-look pass, but if you go back, Matt was doing it first. He just hasn’t gotten the credit he deserves.”

On both sides of the football, game recognizes game. Defensive players also echoed their admiration for the Rams QB.

What Rams Fans Should Expect in 2025

With a new WR1 to target this season in Davante Adams, followed by Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell, Stafford will have plenty of opportunity to help the Rams reach expectations.

“I gotta tip my hat to Matthew Stafford,” said Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. “I definitely got a newfound respect for him. It’s like he knows everything before it’s happening.”

Bills cornerback Taron Johnson added, “He’s a special quarterback. His accuracy, his arm talent — he can put it where a lot of other quarterbacks can’t. He could dice up a defense for sure.”
