New Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek has been patient in attacking his new roster since taking the job but is finally starting to make some moves. The team announced on Tuesday that they've signed wide receiver Kyle Philips.
Notably, Philips spent the entire 2024 season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad and just won his first Super Bowl ring. He didn't play in the game and didn't appear in any regular season games this season but he stuck around for the entire year.
Philips now gets to reunite with Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, who coached the wide receiver for four years at UCLA.
The two should have a strong rapport having worked together for so long. Philips will have a good grasp of Kelly's system. The wide receiver first came into the NFL as a fifth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans but only mustered 23 catches for 259 yards in two seasons before getting let go.
Philips was actually born in Las Vegas, Nevada, so he should feel right at home with the Raiders. He still has an uphill battle to make the active roster once the season starts but his relationship with Kelly will certainly help him get a head start on other wide receivers on the roster.
