Raiders Sign Former Jets DL & Oakland Native

The Las Vegas Raiders have been cautiously aggressive in rebuilding their roster this offseason under new general manager John Spytek. While the team has spent very little money on free agents, they did trade for quarterback Geno Smith and extend star defensive end Maxx Crosby.

During the free agency period, the Raiders lost almost half of their defensive starters, but Spytek has replaced them with a slew of high-value players. On Monday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported  that the team was signing another such player with the addition of defensive lineman Leki Fotu, an Oakland, California native and former New York Jet.

Fotu was a fourth-round selection by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2020 NFL Draft and played four seasons with the franchise before signing with the New York Jets last year. He has totaled 92 career tackles, and while he is mainly a run-stopper, he has 3.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss as well.

Spytek has made the defensive line a priority this offseason, as evidenced by Crosby's extension and the re-signings of Malcolm Koonce, Adam Butler and Charles Snowden. Fotu will now join a competitive defensive line room in Las Vegas as he looks to earn rotational reps behind Butler and Christian Wilkins.
