Raiders predicted to pull off shocking trade for projected $238 million quarterback

The Las Vegas Raiders will be one of the premier players in the quarterback market this offseason, as the team has gotten subpar play at the position since the departure of Derek Carr in 2023, and it's clear neither Aidan O'Connell nor Gardner Minshew are long-term answers.

Many expect Las Vegas to either sign a veteran in free agency or select a young signal-caller in the 2025 NFL Draft, but TWSN's Daniel Alameda predicts general manager John Spytek will pull off a blockbuster trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy isn’t a superstar athlete, but one thing that Brady has emphasized time and time again is having college experience as well as being fully committed to reading NFL Defenses and committed to greatness.

While this move may seem far-fetched, the Raiders admitted they will turn over every possibly leaf, and if they call the 49ers and they’re willing to play ball, might as well buy your Brock Purdy jersey now.

Purdy's rise to being a franchise quarterback is one of the most improbable stories in NFL history. The No. 262 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has led San Francisco to two NFC championships, a Super Bowl appearance in 2023, and a 23-13 regular season record in three years.

The 25-year-old has been an adequate starter for San Francisco but is set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2026 and has yet to sign an extension with the team.

Though Purdy will cost a ton of money to extend and is coming off an underwhelming 2024 campaign, the former Iowa State standout is still a solid starting signal-caller who hasn't reached his peak, and the 49ers would be foolish to already move on from him.

However, if San Francisco decides to go in a new direction at the sport's most vital position and trade Purdy this offseason, the Raiders should aggressively pursue the 2023 Pro Bowler.

Gardner Minshew's two years with the Jaguars was filled with magic moments

Las Vegas is projected to have around $92 million in cap space this offseason and brought in a new regime centered around head coach Pete Carroll. The franchise has many resources to build a competitive team around Purdy and already has a few dynamic receiving opinions in All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers and veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.

Spotrac believes Purdy's extension will be four years for $238 million. Though that is a massive investment, and the Raiders will also have to give up premier draft capital for the star signal-caller, the 2022 seventh-round pick would be a gigantic upgrade over O'Connell and Minshew and could be Las Vegas' franchise quarterback for years to come.

Overall, the 49ers will likely get an extension done with Purdy sooner rather than later, and he'll stay in San Francisco. However, if the young quarterback hits the trade block this offseason, Spytek should aggressively look to trade for Purdy and acquire the future face of the franchise.
