The 2-5 Las Vegas Raiders host their divisional rival, the 6-0 Kansas City Chiefs, at Allegiant Stadium for their eighth regular season game on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders hope to add to the win column after losing three straight. Gardner Minshew will get the nod at quarterback today since Aidan O’Connell will miss an extended period after suffering a fractured thumb last week.
Minshew and the Raiders hope their top wide receiver will play this week.
The Las Vegas Raiders WR1 suffered a lower-leg injury in Week 5
Jakobi Meyers suffered an apparent ankle injury in their Week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos. Meyers didn’t practice on Wednesday and Thursday’s practice but upgraded to a limited participant on Friday of Week 6, but the Raiders downgraded him from doubtful to out for that game. He didn’t participate in last week’s practice, and the Raiders ruled him out after originally listing him as doubtful for Week 7.
Antonio Pierce expressed optimism on Friday that he would return this week. “I let them get a little more rest on Thursday and they’ll practice today,” Pierce said of Meyers and Maxx Crosby, adding he expects both to play on Sunday against the Chiefs. “If you get Jakobi back that’s a good boost.”
Jakobi Meyers participated in a limited fashion on Wednesday, rested on Thursday, and upgraded to a full participant on Friday. The Las Vegas Raiders listed him as questionable in this week’s injury report. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Raiders expect Meyers to play against the Kansas City Chiefs, which would greatly boost the shorthanded offense that no longer has Davante Adams on their team.
Who will start at WR today?
The Las Vegas starting lineup will likely be Tre Tucker and Jakobi Meyers on the outside, and DJ Turner II will be in the slot. If Meyers cannot play, expect Alex Bachman to get the nod since the Raiders didn’t promote or elevate any wide receivers for gameday (Justin Shorter is considered a tight end).
