The Raiders weren’t excited to lose Tre’von Moehrig to the Carolina Panthers in free agency, but their consolation prize in Jeremy Chinn came with a smaller price tag and GM John Spytek is hopeful that Chinn will be as effective as his predecessor.
Last week, Spytek raved about Chinn and the unique set of skills the 6’3, 220-pound safety brings to the Raiders’ secondary.
“He’s got such an amazing skill set for a man of his size,” Spytek told ESPN’s Ryan McFadden. “And you love the intelligence and the instincts that go with it.”
“He’s like a big nickel,” Spytek continued. “You love his size on the edge, his ability to blitz, support the run. Then he’s a guy that can still drop and play as part of the deep coverage, too.”
Aside from the physical element Chinn brings to Vegas, he also brings a style of leadership the team didn’t necessarily have in the secondary a year ago.
