The Las Vegas Raiders are tapping into their Bay Area ties for an upcoming online web series.
The Raiders tabbed Baron Davis, a longtime Golden State Warriors guard and Raiders fan, to host a new series “Raiders: Talk of the Nation.”
Davis has had a successful post-playing career as an entrepreneur and businessman while also co-hosting “The Draymond Green Show” podcast alongside the longtime Warriors forward.
Why Is Baron Davis A Raiders Fan?
Davis, who spent 13 seasons in the NBA yet became a Raiders fan while growing up in Los Angeles in the early 1980s and 1990s, shares a surname with the Raiders’ legendary owner and football czar Al Davis. But Al was among those who had an impact on Baron’s Raiders fandom.
“It’s Al Davis, it’s Charles Woodson, it’s Ronnie Lott, Marcus Allen,” Davis said when asked how he became a fan. “I became tight with Marcus Allen and Ronnie Lott both became mentors to me.”
He went to UCLA then created core memories for Raiders and Warriors fans alike in the Bay Area as a core member of the 2007 Warriors, who as a No. 8 seed stunned the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks.
That makes him a foundational member, which is why he was chosen for the series.
What Is Baron Davis’ Raiders Show Going To Be About?
Davis is a beloved member of Raiders Nation, and he is hoping to create new memories for Raiders fans. The goal of “Raider Nation” will be to get members of the team and organization to open up so fans can get to know player, front-office members and media personalities better.
“I’m super excited,” Davis said in a post on the Raiders website. “As a fan and former athlete, it is going to be fun to be able to tap into players’ and coaches’ personalities.
The 30-minute show will delve into Raiders former players and NFL personalities. The show will be produced by the Raiders’ in-house production house “Silver & Black Productions.”
The Raiders brought Davis on because he could identify with fellow athletes. But they also hope Davis, as a basketball player, can explore guests’ other interests and activities off the field while also getting a glimpse at who each is, both in Las Vegas and elsewhere.
“I’m especially excited to partner with the Raiders on this show because, as a basketball player, stepping into the world of football opens up an incredible opportunity to explore the powerful intersection of sports and culture,” Davis said. “This isn’t just a show about Raider Nation — it’s about the spirit of football, the passion of fandom and the strength of community.”
The show expects to have guests like Maxx Crosby and other members of the Raiders still to be unveiled. Plus, Davis is hoping to use his unique perspective on sports to create a fun and entertaining show that also is educational for fans.
“From both a fan’s perspective and a basketball player lens, it’s a first-of-its-kind project that truly bridges the gap between sports worlds,” Davis said. “I want the fans to feel connected to the players and coaches.”
