Raiders Make Another Key Addition to Pete Carroll's Coaching Staff on Saturday

Pete Carroll's coaching staff with the Las Vegas Raiders is essentially set but they continue to make additions. The team has had a lot of old-school coaches over the years who have been apprehensive to embrace the analytical side of football but it looks like things are changing.

Carroll is the oldest coach in the NFL but he's proven that he's unafraid of embracing new ideas. Seth Walder of ESPN reported on Saturday that the Raiders have hired  Ryan Paganetti as head coach research specialist.

Paganetti's most recent position was as the director of football analytics for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Notably, Paganetti previously worked for the Philadelphia Eagles when Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was the head coach. He has experience as a position coach, he's mostly focused on the analytical side of football for the past several years.

The Raiders made many poor analytical decisions under head coach Antonio Pierce last season and it's clear that Carroll wants the team to be analytically strong. That doesn't necessarily mean they'll win many more games because of it but it's a step in the right direction.

Carroll's staff is an interesting mix of old-school coaches, young innovative minds and analytically driven people.
