Raiders insider tabs 2x Pro Bowl QB as sneaky trade target

Las Vegas Raiders

While Aidan O’Connell showed growth last season, the Las Vegas Raiders can’t expect a team led by AOC and Gardner Minshew will lead to drastically different results in 2025, even with Pete Carroll taking over as head coach.

The Raiders will be shopping for a quarterback upgrade this offseason. That’s a guarantee. There may even be one who’s already caught their eye.

The Los Angeles Rams are once again in a contract stalemate with Matthew Stafford. Now 37 years old, Stafford wants a stronger financial commitment and the Rams have yet to provide it.

Thus, Stafford’s contract status has led to several NFL trade rumors, including one involving the Las Vegas Raiders.

The latest comes via The Athletic’s Vic Tafur who calls Stafford a “name to watch” in the Raiders’ QB hunt.

“Will the Raiders sign a QB and draft one? Sam Darnold likely is the best free-agent QB available, but there will be other veterans for the new regime of Tom Brady, Pete Carroll and John Spytek to consider. Kirk Cousins? Meh. The name to watch is Matthew Stafford if the Rams trade him. Less exciting cases could also be made for free agents Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and Marcus Mariota to pair with a quarterback in this year’s draft. The connection between Brady and Shedeur Sanders has been well-documented, and while there is a chance Sanders could slide to the No. 6 pick, maybe a more aggressive path would be to trade up a couple of spots to get him. The Raiders could also wait for a young gun in the draft, depending on their impressions of Jalen Milroe, Kyle McCord and Tyler Shough.”

The Rams are said to be asking for a first-round pick in exchange for Stafford. The Raiders won’t be offering the sixth overall pick for the 37-year-old QB, but perhaps a deal involving the 37th overall pick could be worked out this offseason.

Stafford just helped the Rams win a Wild Card playoff matchup, and while the competition is stiff in the AFC West just as it is in the NFC West
