Raiders fans given alarming update on Christian Wilkins

Former Las Vegas Raiders general manager Tom Telesco made plenty of swings in free agency during his only season at the helm, with defensive tackle Christian Wilkins serving as his crown jewel.

Wilkins signed with the Raiders on a four-year, $110 million contract to give Maxx Crosby a proper running mate on the defensive line. However, those dreams went unfulfilled, as a Jones fracture in his foot ended Wilkins’s maiden season in Las Vegas after just five games. Since that time, updates on Wilkins’s health have suggested a setback in his recovery, with the defensive tackle being in and out of a walking boot all offseason and not participating in practices.

However, a recent update has lead fans to believe that Wilkins might need more time than anticipated.

Is Wilkins in danger of missing the 2025 season altogether?

According to Mitchell Renz of Chat Sports’ Raiders Report, Wilkins might need to have another surgery, resulting in him missing the entire 2025 season.

“Christian Wilkins needs another surgery and could be out the entire season,” Renz said. “I had a source reach out to me yesterday… and unfortunately dropped this horrific news on my plate.

“Here’s what I know as it stands right now,” Renz continued. “Wilkins does, in fact, need another surgery… I’m telling you that somebody that I trust told me yesterday that it is a fact that [Wilkins] is going to have to undergo another surgery.”

Renz also added that Wilkins does not want to go back for another surgery, but the Raiders’ medical staff is advising him to get it in order to prevent damaging his foot further.

If the reports are true and Wilkins does miss the 2025 season, it marks another frustrating turn for both him and the Raiders. While nothing can be confirmed until further information comes out, it is still a point of concern that the Raiders must keep in mind. Between the severity of Wilkins’s injury and the possibility of being further removed from his last NFL action, it is unclear if the star defensive tackle can return to form when he returns.

With this new update, Raiders fans can only hope that Renz’s report is mere hyperbole.
