The new regime has already done so many things that have helped the Las Vegas Raiders be better than they were last year, and the season hasn't even started yet. First, it starts with the hiring of Pete Carroll, the former Seattle Seahawks HC.
Of course, John Spytek, who hails from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their front office, has to be the next best thing that happened when you look at their roster building and how good it's been this offseason. But seriously, it cannot be understated how huge the move was to bring back defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and defensive line coach Rob Leonard.
Those two have been with the franchise for the last few years and have put together some amazing defenses, so that's one reason why the move was big-time. But also, they are helping the players with so much more.
"You know what, it eliminates the anxiety of having a new staff and having to relearn their ways of coaching, their ways of doing things, and having to adjust," defensive tackle Adam Butler said at mandatory minicamp. "Different coaches teach different things. But now that I have them back, I know them. I know what they expect, and I know I can deliver on what they expect from me."
You can hear writers, reporters, coaches, former coaches, and anyone else always talk about continuity and how important it is year after year -- that isn't just lip service, that's a real thing that is very important. And now you have a guy like Adam Butler, who was one of the best defenders on the Raiders last season, talking about how a new DC gives players anxiety with learning the playbook and lingo of the scheme.
The Raiders have been doing everything the right way, but it cannot be understated how big of a decision it was to bring back Graham, who really could be a head coach right now.
