The Raiders are in the process of rebuilding their offensive coaching staff after firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, offensive line coach James Cregg, and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello.
The first move they made in this rebuilding is hiring Norv Turner to the staff as an offensive assistant. Turner has a history with the Raiders after serving as their head coach from 2004-05. Turner did not have much luck as a Raider coach going 9-23 in those two seasons.
Even though Turner's expertise didn't show up in the win column while coaching for the Raiders. He's still being dubbed by Ian Rapoport as one of the "NFL’s most respected offensive minds."
Now he's being added to a Raiders staff that his son Scott Turner is currently a coach on as a passing game coordinator. However, Scott could soon be promoted.
This will be Norv's first coaching gig since 2019 when he was a special assistant to the head coach with the Carolina Panthers.
Another interesting bit of information provided by Rapoport about this hiring is that it will allow Norv to be closer to his grandchildren, as well as be coworkers with his son.
