Prospects Eagles could still land by trading out of 1st round to acquire picks

The 2025 NFL Draft approaches. It is scheduled from Thursday, April 24 until Saturday, April 26. Green Bay, Wisconsin provides the backdrop. The Philadelphia Eagles currently own eight choices.

If nothing changes, all of those picks will be exhausted before we reach Round 6, but this is one of Howie Roseman's babies. We never expect him to sit idle and simply wait on his turn.

Draft selections are often used as bargaining chips. Few travel the board like Philly's vice president/general manager. Many of our mocks have been trade-free, including the ones we offered that come with backup options.

In 2018, after winning the franchise's first Vince Lombardi Trophy, Howie traded back and eventually landed Dallas Goedert in the second round. No one should be shocked if a similar move takes place and Philly trades out of Round 1 again following their most recent Super Bowl victory, one that has spoiled a few Kansas City Chiefs victory parties.

6 prospects who might be available if the Eagles trade back and out of Round 1

Watching the Eagles schedule and host Top 30 visits has changed our minds about a few theories we had, both written and unwritten. One can never ignore who they are showing interest in.

Visiting a team doesn't necessarily guarantee a prospect's selection, but when Philly is the host, it guarantees they are serious about who they are talking to.

Just last year alone, we've seen them host (and draft) Jalyx Hunt, Cooper DeJean, and Quinyon Mitchell. The names on this list are intriguing. They're players that Philly could still land if they trade back and out of Round 1 to try and add more picks.

Again, one has to consider the theory that Howie might travel around the board.

Josh Conerly Jr., offensive tackle, Oregon Ducks

There's no way to determine or predict how drafts will play out. No one thought Quinyon Mitchell would fall to 22 last April. We certainly weren't banking on Philly snagging Q and Cooper DeJean.

On that note, we're going to assume Will Campbell (LSU), Armand Membou (Missouri), Josh Simmons (Ohio State), and Kelvin Banks (Texas) will be among the top four offensive tackles taken. Josh Conerly could slide out of Round 1. Still, if Philly wants to gamble, they'd need to wind up somewhere around 40 or higher if they want to add another former Duck to their nest.

Marcus Mbow, offensive lineman, Purdue Boilermakers

Philly hosted Marcus Mbow by way of a Top 30 visit. He could be a nice consolation prize if someone like Conerly is unavailable. The difference here is the Eagles could wait a little longer to add Mbow. He might still be on the board toward the end of Round 2 or early in Round 3.

Shemar Turner, defensive interior, Texas A&M Aggies

This is one of those big 'maybes'. Don't be shocked if Shemar Turner is taken before the 32nd selection, but we'd assume guys like Mason Graham (Michigan), Kenneth Grant (Michigan), Walter Nolen (Ole Miss), and Derrick Harmon (Oregon) will hear their names called first.

That being said, if Philly looks to add to the interior of the defensive line first, Turner might be worth the trouble, and he could be available on Day 2.

Nic Scourton, (Texas A&M) or Oluwafemi Oladejo (UCLA), maybe

Nic Scourton has landed with Philly during a couple of mock drafts. The theory is that he should be available at the end of Round 1. Oluwafemi Oladejo is more of a Day 2 prospect.

Philly spoke with him. He could find his way into Round 2, but early indications are he should be available in Round 3.

Maxwell Hairston, cornerback, Kentucky Wildcats

The Eagles drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean with their first two choices in 2024. They added Adoree' Jackson by way of free agency.

Kelee Ringo enters year three and is waiting in the wings. That probably eliminates the possibility of the Birds taking a cornerback early.

However, if they trade out of Round 1 and acquire more picks, Hairston could be a bonus selection. He stands at six feet one and weighs 186 pounds. He is graded by many as a mid-second-round selection.
