PROMISING ROOKIE KHYREE JACKSON PLACED ON IR AFTER INJURY SETBACK

It’s a heartbreaking turn of events for the Minnesota Vikings and football fans across the country.

Rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, once a beacon of promise for the Vikings’ 2024 draft class, has officially been placed on injured reserve (IR) following a devastating car crash that claimed his life on July 6, 2024. While the move is a procedural step by the team, the emotional weight of it cannot be overstated.

Jackson was drafted in the fourth round (Pick No. 108 overall) out of the University of Oregon, where he made waves with his elite size, tenacity in coverage, and physical style of play. A late bloomer in college football after time at junior college and Alabama, Jackson’s story was one of grit, perseverance, and relentless pursuit of the dream. Coaches and teammates had high hopes that he would become an impact player in the Vikings’ secondary.

The IR designation serves as a formality, but it’s also a somber reminder of what was lost far too soon. Jackson and two former high school teammates were killed in an early morning car crash in Maryland, when another vehicle struck theirs at high speed. He was just 24 years old.

Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell previously said:

“Khyree was a joy to be around—his energy, his toughness, and his belief in himself were contagious. We were so excited for his future, both on and off the field.”

The Vikings organization continues to mourn his passing, and tributes have poured in from across the NFL, college football, and fans alike. His legacy—though brief—left a mark.

As the Vikings head into the 2025 season, they carry more than just a roster; they carry the spirit of a young man who fought for his shot—and left a lasting impression.

Rest in peace, Khyree Jackson. 💜🕊️
