Predicting when Caleb Williams will break every Chicago Bears passing record

Caleb Williams’ Chicago Bears career is about to begin, so let’s think big and talk records!

Caleb Williams is the Chicago Bears quarterback and many expect this to finally be the QB that changes the narrative of Chicago Bears’ quarterbacks of the last 75 years.

With Williams’ Bears career about to begin, let’s have some fun, shall we? Let’s look at the Chicago Bears' passing records and decide when Caleb Williams breaks each of these records.

Most passing yards, rookie: Mitchell Trubisky, 2,193 yards, 2017

Caleb Williams will shatter this record. He will have it a little more than halfway through his rookie season. The only thing that could prevent Caleb from owning this record would be an injury.

Record set: November 17, 2024 vs Green Bay Packers

Most passing touchdowns, rookie: Charlie O’Rourke, 11, 1942

This is another record that doesn’t stand a chance. This will be the first official record that Caleb Williams will officially own. This one will fall a little sooner than the passing yards, but both rookie passing records will fall in the month of November.

Record set: November 3, 2024 vs Arizona Cardinals

Most passing yards, season: Erik Kramer, 3,838, 1995

This will be the most fun to watch this season. Will Caleb Williams break Erik Kramer’s magical season and eclipse 3,838 yards? For a while I didn’t think this was going to happen in year one, I thought we might have to wait until year two. But I’ve changed my tune, we are going to see this one fall this season as well. It will obviously be late in the year, it will be in the final game of the season and Caleb Williams will set both passing yardage marks against the Green Bay Packers.

Record set: January 5, 2025 vs Green Bay Packers

Most passing touchdowns, season: Erik Kramer, 29, 1995

I’m not sure if this one falls this season. 29 touchdowns is a hefty amount. That would have been good for 5th in the NFL in 2023 (Kramer finished 4th in 1995). So I think Caleb is going to have to come into his own before he gets this one, he won’t get this one as a rookie, and he may not get this one in year two either.

Record set: Friday, December 25, 2026 (3rd season) (because by then, of course, the NFL will have Caleb play on Christmas)

Most passing yards, career: Jay Cutler, 23,443, 2009-2016

Let’s look at the career numbers. We will start with passing yards. It would be pretty sweet if Caleb would own this record before his rookie contract expires after five years, but it’s going to take a little longer than that. But once Caleb Williams has his big contract extension from the McCaskeys, this career passing record won’t be far behind.

Record set: December 16, 2029

Most passing touchdowns, career: Jay Cutler, 154, 2009-2016

Finally, the career passing touchdowns record will also belong to Caleb Williams. He should reach this one around the same time as he breaks Cutler’s passing yardage record, however, I do think he owns the touchdown record first.

Record set: October 14, 2029
