Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell were locked into a quarterback competition that didn’t end until the third week of preseason but based on the way the quarterbacks have been working together, their doesn’t seem to be any negative effects from their months of competition.
Minshew has been the Raiders starting quarterback for just over six weeks and while there’s an argument to be made that O’Connell should get an opportunity soon, there is no animus between the quarterbacks.
In fact, the two seem to be as tight as anyone on the team and that was evident after Sunday’s win over the Browns.
As players shook hands after the game, a Las Vegas News 8 Now camera caught a unique exchange between Minshew and O’Connell.
The two hugged not once, but twice, and while it’s difficult to tell what O’Connell says, it sounds like he tells Minshew, “I love you, man. That was freaking awesome… You, okay?”
After a week that head coach Antonio Pierce acknowledged was difficult on the team, it was a welcome sight for Raider fans to see the enthusiasm and excitement back after the game.
Winning cures all and, for now, all is well in Raider Nation.
The Browns, on the other hand, have the exact opposite situation brewing in the locker room. Amari Cooper doesn’t seem happy in Cleveland and Deshaun Watson is no longer the likeable character that he was a few years ago.
But that’s not for Raider fans to worry about and the thousands of Browns fans who invaded Las Vegas this weekend will have plenty of time to talk through their feelings on the long flight back to Ohio.
