The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the 2024 season with unusual expectations. This off-season they acquired both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson to revamp their quarterback room. The Steelers could very well be in Super Bowl contention if they get 2020 Russell Wilson.
However, they could miss the playoffs completely if their quarterback play is subpar like it has been for two seasons now. However, there was recently an update in their quarterback room that surprised fans across the league.
Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB Room Gets Wild Update Ahead Of The 2024 Season
According to multiple news outlets on social media:
Steelers’ QB Justin Fields has been having a good training camp and the team is “open minded” to the possibility of him being the team’s starting QB, per ESPN.
As training camp begins, Russell Wilson is not practicing due to an injured calf for a fourth consecutive day. In the quarterback race, Justin Fields continues to gain ground on Wilson despite it being portrayed as a precautionary injury.
While running with the first team, Fields has had a good training camp so far. His touchdowns during 7-on-7s included a 40 yard score from Van Jefferson, and a deep strike to George Pickens between two defenders during camp’s opening day.
It would be surprising to see Fields actually overtake Wilson as QB1, but we’ve seen crazier things happen in the league thus far.
