The Pittsburgh Steelers allowed both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to depart in free agency following the 2024 NFL season. Wilson will compete with Jameis Winston to be the starting quarterback of the New York Giants while Fields was signed to replace Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets.
And speaking of Rodgers, the Steelers are still waiting on an answer from the four-time NFL MVP in regard to whether or not he wants to play for them in 2025. Even though team ownership, coaches, and front office personnel spent six hours meeting with him, he left their facility without signing a contract.
The Pittsburgh Steelers Believe They Will Have Aaron Rodgers in 2025

Despite the fact that they have not come to an agreement with Rodgers yet, the Steelers feel confident that all signs are pointing in the right direction, and that he will be their starting quarterback in 2025.
Over the weekend, Rodgers worked out with DK Metcalf, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Pittsburgh acquired via trade earlier this offseason, at UCLA. The workout was apparently part of the future Pro Football Hall of Famer’s own evaluation process.
Of course, there is also the notion that no other NFL team is currently interested in Rodgers that bodes will for the Steelers. However, one Pittsburgh legend believes his former contemporary is waiting to see if that will still be the case in the near future.
Pittsburgh Steelers Legend Ben Roethlisberger Thinks Aaron Rodgers Is Still Hoping to Sign with the Minnesota Vikings

Earlier this offseason, it was a well-known fact that Rodgers wanted to sign with the Minnesota Vikings more than he wanted to play for any other team. However, Minnesota told him that they had no plans of pursuing him despite the loss of Sam Darnold to free agency and the inexperience of JJ McCarthy.
Plans, though, can change. And former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger believes Rodgers is hoping they will.
“I think Aaron [Rodgers] is secretly still holding out for Minnesota—which is why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers,” Roethlisberger said. “Why else would you go throw with DK and working out, and blast it to everybody that ‘I’m throwing to these guys,’ but you won’t sign?”
He later added that Rodgers, who defeated Pittsburgh in the only Super Bowl in which he played, may view the Vikings as a more complete team, one that would give him a better chance of winning a second ring.
