Pierre LeBrun Reveals What Many Feared About McDavid's Next Contract After Edmonton's Collapse

Following the latest SCF loss by the Oilers, NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun is revealing what many Edmonton fans are fearing about Connor McDavid's next contract.

The Edmonton Oilers are once again dealing with the disappointment of having lost in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers.

It denied them what would have been another opportunity for their 1st Stanley Cup title since 1990, and is also the 3rd loss in the Cup Final since then, following in the footsteps of their heartbreaking 7 game losses in 2006 to the Carolina Hurricanes and last year to Florida.

While the Oilers have locked up superstar forward Leon Draisaitl with an 8-year contract extension, all eyes will soon be on Connor McDavid, who is about to enter the final year of his current contract.

While McDavid has the chance to become the highest paid player in NHL history with his next deal, the question not only remains of how many years the contract will go for, but who it will be with.

NHL analyst Pierre LeBrun recently said he believes that McDavid will opt for a shorter-term contract of 2-3 years rather than an 8-year extension similar to that of Draisaitl.

When speaking with reporters recently on his future with the Oilers, McDavid didn't exactly say that he was feeling the urge to guarantee he'd remain in Edmonton for the rest of his career.

If McDavid plays out this upcoming season without a deal beyond 2026, it will be perhaps the most intriguing free agent storyline in NHL history.
