For as long as anyone can remember, Pete Carroll has been coaching the Seattle Seahawks, even leading them to a Super Bowl victory in 2013. After his exit earlier this year, the former head coach has revealed what he’s up to lately.
Carroll’s journey began as a collegiate assistant coach, working at various schools like Pacific, Arkansas, Iowa State, Ohio State, and North Carolina State in the 1970s and early 1980s. He then transitioned to the NFL, serving as a defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets, before becoming a defensive coordinator for the Jets and New England Patriots in the late 1990s.
In 2001, Carroll was hired as the head coach of the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans, where he revived the struggling program and led them to seven consecutive conference championships and two AP National Championships. His collegiate success prompted a return to the NFL, as he was hired as the head coach of the Seahawks in 2010.
Under Carroll’s leadership, the Seahawks qualified for the playoffs 10 times, won their division five times, and won the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XLVIII. Following the 2023 season, Carroll stepped down as head coach to take an executive position with the Seahawks.
Former Seattle Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll’s New Job Revealed
According to a report by Adam Wells for Bleacher Report, Carroll is set to return to the University of Southern California to teach a class this spring. The 73-year-old coach, who stepped down from the Seahawks after the 2023 season, revealed that he is not ready to fully retire from coaching.
“Former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll will turn 73 on Sept. 15, but he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
Appearing on Sports Radio 93.3 KJR-FM (h/t ESPN’s Brady Henderson), Carroll revealed he will be returning to USC to teach a class this spring without offering any specifics about the job.
Asked in the same interview if he wanted to get back into coaching, Carroll said he “could coach tomorrow” but it’s not something he’s “desiring it at this point,” Wells wrote.
Additionally, he mentioned that he will be doing some advising but clarified that it would not be for any football teams. Carroll’s tenure with the Seahawks was marked by tremendous success, as he led the franchise to a Super Bowl championship and numerous playoff appearances.
Despite his upcoming teaching role at USC, where he previously coached from 2001 to 2009, Carroll remains open to the possibility of returning to coaching in the future. His wealth of experience and proven track record make him an attractive option for any team seeking a seasoned and successful head coach.
