The New England Patriots look like they got themselves a gem after selecting Will Campbell with the fourth overall pick.
Campbell, one of the top offensive linemen in this draft class, has said all the right things during his short time with the Patriots. Right after being drafted, he said he'd be willing to do everything to protect Drake Maye, including dying to make sure that he stays upright.
That wasn’t the only thing he’s done right since the draft.
According to a video posted by the Patriots, Campbell told Robert Kraft, the Patriots' owner, that he had been telling them all along that this is where he wanted to be.
“I’ve been telling them all: This is where I wanted to be,” Campbell told Kraft, per a video shared by the Patriots. “So, whenever I saw the area code pop up, I didn’t even know what to say. I was just so excited.”
This is the type of mindset that the Patriots are hopeful will continue for Campbell, who was a star at LSU.
The Patriots needed somebody to protect Maye on his blindside, and got exactly that in the LSU product.
It'll be interesting to see how he performs at the NFL level, but many are expecting him to come to the NFL and be an instant impact type of guy.
That isn't the easiest thing for a 21-year-old, but the Louisiana native did nothing but show throughout his college career that he has the ability to keep his quarterback upright.
That's exactly what the Patriots need after having one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL a season ago.
