Patriots Reportedly Could Consider Making Major Draft Night Trade

At fourth overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have a difficult decision to make. With the chance that one of Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter will likely be off the board, the options for New England are slim.

However, a recent report presents a 'shocker' move that would have the Patriots trading the fourth overall pick away for an edge rusher.

According to Sportskeeda NFL Insider Tony Pauline, the Patriots could consider a shocking move if they don't decide to take one of the top offensive tackles at fourth overall. 

Pauline reports that if the Patriots trade out of fourth overall, it would be for a pass rusher. Pauline brings up the Patriots' desire to add Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett when they were believed to be available as a reason why such a stunning move could occur.

Draft night trades happen every year, but rarely would one as stunning as this occur. When the Tennessee Titans traded A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a shocking move, but it occurred with the 18th pick, not fourth overall.

One possible deal could be the Patriots moving back to the Pittsburgh Steelers for T.J. Watt and the 21st pick in the draft. New England could also move back with the Cincinnati Bengals for Trey Hendrickson and a first-round pick, along with other draft pick compensation. 

Regardless of whether a trade partner is found, it's a stunning report just a week ahead of the NFL Draft. Pauline's report hints at a major shift on draft night for New England, with a heavily implied 'if' behind such a scenario.

A move of this magnitude would be stunning, but according to Pauline, it's a possibility for the Patriots on draft night. The 2025 NFL Draft's first round begins on Thursday, April 24.
