Patriots Linked to Las Vegas Raiders Starting Quarterback in Offseason

The New England Patriots will have multiple decisions to make over the next few months.

With quarterback Drake Maye clearly being the No. 1 guy moving forward, youngster Joe Milton might not have much of a role.

Milton has shown the ability to be an above-average quarterback in the NFL, and while he only did that for one game in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills, the signs were promising.

Any quarterback-needy team might view him as somebody who could be a bridge guy for a year or possibly a franchise quarterback, given how young he still is.

For the Patriots, however, they have a trade chip they could look to move.

If they decide to move on for Milton, they'd need to find a backup quarterback, and Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports believes that could be Gardner Minshew, naming him a potential fit.

Minshew has experience starting in the NFL, and at 28 years old, he might be trying to find a full-time job. However, he hasn't necessarily done enough to deserve one.

Still, if the Patriots were to add him as a backup, and if Maye went down, there are many worse options to have as a backup around the league.

A season ago, he threw for nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions for the Las Vegas Raiders. He added 2,013 yards.

Minshew didn't have a great year, but he's been serviceable in short stints.
