Davon Godchaux's time in New England could be coming to an end soon.

Patriots give starter permission to seek a trade not even a year after they gave him a massive pay raise

The Patriots have given the defensive tackle permission to seek a trade, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

This comes after Godchaux and the Patriots agreed to a two-year, $16.5 million contract extension in July. However, by November, it was reported that the Patriots were going fielding calls about a possible trade.

But it seems they feel now is the best time to trade him.

Especially considering the Patriots brought in Mike Vrabel to lead the team, and he's already made it clear that the roster will look a lot different by August.

And with that, executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf noted that the 2025 NFL Draft has a lot of prospects along the defensive line.

“I think it’s really deep on the defensive line,” Wolf said.

So with that, the Patriots could look to get a high draft pick for Godchaux as they look to rebuild.

During the 2024 season, Godchaux finished with 67 total tackles across 17 games. Throughout his entire career, he has a total of 429 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and three passes defended.
