Patriots Get Positive Injury Update on Christian Gonzalez Scar

The New England Patriots began the week with their first couple of padded practices of training camp. However, Tuesday morning star cornerback Christian Gonzalez limped off the field after covering Stefon Diggs on a crossing route during 11-on-11 drills, according to Mike Reiss.

Patriots Get Positive Injury Update on Christian Gonzalez Scare

Gonzalez immediately went over to the athletic training shed on his own power. The Patriots' corner did not practice Tuesday, but was seen on the sideline with a sleeve on his left leg and no noticeable limp.

According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Gonzalez suffered a hamstring injury, but should be available for week one.

Patriots' head coach Mike Vrabel spoke with the media at Wednesday morning's practice and addressed Gonzalez's injury.

“No updates," Vrabel said. "I wouldn’t expect to see him here this week. Just like everybody else, I know he’s working extremely hard to get back.”

Although it's not ideal to have your top cornerback out injured already in training camp, it feels like the Patriots dodged a bullet. Gonzalez is entering his third year in the NFL, and after a breakout season in 2024, many analysts believe another breakout is coming in 2025.

The recovery from Gonzalez's hamstring injury is typically 1-2 weeks, but it's important to be patient with this type of injury. Expect the Patriots to give Gonzalez plenty of time to get back to 100 percent health before he's back out on the field to make sure he's healthy for the start of the regular season.
