The New England Patriots selected tackle Caedan Wallace in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and fans hoped that this would fix some of the issues along the offensive line.
However, he only started in one game, taking over for Vederian Lowe at left tackle in Week 3 against the New York Jets. Lowe was placed on injured reserve after Week 4 due to a high ankle sprain, and didn't return until Week 17.
He played in six games throughout his rookie season, but it was never in a consistent role. So, going into his second year with a new head coach, it seems there is a clear plan for Wallace.
"While nothing is set in stone, some of the team-based discussion surrounding Patriots 2024 third-round pick Caedan Wallace has been about initially giving him a chance to settle in at right tackle, according to a team source," ESPN's Mike Reiss wrote on Sunday.
He mainly played right tackle at Penn State, but the expectation was for him to play at left tackle last year. Clearly, that didn't work out.
And if the Patriots can find a true left tackle option in free agency or in the draft, that will allow Wallace to focus on this one position.
