In what has already been a very busy offseason for the Patriots, New England has decided to start fresh under new head coach Mike Vrabel. The Patriots have seen many players come and go over the past few seasons but they now part ways with long-time Patriot, David Andrews.
This move came as somewhat of a surprise considering New England’s recent struggles with their offensive line. Andrews has been an anchor on the Patriots’ offensive line for years and has been with the team since 2015. He has won two Super Bowls with the team and was an offensive captain.
In his 121 starts with the Patriots, Andrews has been responsible for only 21 penalties. He has been a reliable center for New England as well as a mentor. Having a player like him around could have been beneficial for young quarterback Drake Maye, the Patriots’ next face of the franchise.
The Patriots have added offensive tackle Morgan Moses this offseason but most of their additions have been on the defense. Releasing David Andrews could indicate the team’s intention of rebuilding a stronger offensive line for the future.
Regardless, Andrews has been a staple to this Patriots team that has seen so many changes throughout the past few years. He had truly embodied what it means to be a New England Patriot over since joining the team a decade ago.
