Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading back to the AFC Championship Game after a 23-14 win over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs.
The former Texas Tech quarterback finished the game completing 16-of-25 passes for 177 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. Tight end Travis Kelce was his favorite receiver during the game, recording seven catches for 117 yards and one score.
Coming into the game, Mahomes had won 15 postseason games as the starting quarterback of the Chiefs. This was good for the third-most postseason wins by starting quarterback, just one behind San Francisco 49ers legend Joe Montana (16).
However, with the victory over Houston, Mahomes recorded his 16th postseason win and, in doing so, tied Montana for the second-most postseason wins by a starting quarterback in NFL history.
— nick wright (@getnickwright) January 19, 2025Some history for Patrick Mahomes:
16 playoff wins & 7th Conference Championship game appearance, ties Joe Montana for 2nd most ever in both.
7-0 in Divisional Round, best record in any round for any QB.
Only QB ever to win a playoff game every year as a starter.
Mahomes and Montana trail only former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Tom Brady, who won 35 playoff games during his long career, along with a record seven Super Bowls.
Last year, Mahomes went into the playoffs with 11 postseason wins, tied with Troy Aikman for the sixth-most of all time. But, with the Chiefs winning four games on their way to a second-straight title, Mahomes was able to jump into third place, passing stars like Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Roger Staubach.
The Chiefs' run at a potential Super Bowl three-peat will continue next weekend in the AFC Championship Game, where they will play the winner of the Buffalo Bills or the Baltimore Ravens.
