There's no question that Patrick Mahomes is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game of football.
Where he ranks on the all-time list is inconsequential to what we've got to talk about today. The Chiefs great was compared to a college football QB, and that's quite high praise.
The remark came from Emmett Jones, who was the Texas Tech wide receivers coach from 2016-18, overlapping for a couple seasons with Mahomes.
His praise was heaped on John Mateer, the former Washington State QB who has now transferred to Oklahoma.
"I spent two seasons with Pat Mahomes," Jones posted on X. "John Mateer is a bad bad man!!! A DAWG!!"
Jones' post was in response to Mateer being ranked the sixth-best QB in college football by On3.
At Wazzu in 2024, Mateer put up 3,139 passing yards and 29 passing TDs along with 826 rushing yards and 15 rushing TDs.
Regardless of any comparisons, Mateer was clearly a huge transfer portal win for the Sooners.
Is he as bad a man as Mahomes? Guess we'll find out.
