Packers urged to steer clear of fan-favorite prospect during NFL Draft first round

We're so, so close to the biggest moment of this year's NFL Draft: finding out whether or not the Green Bay Packers are finally going to draft a wide receiver in the first round.

If there's a bigger draft storyline out there right now, I haven't heard it. It's been two decades since the Packers decided to give it a shot, and there's been even more speculation than usual this year that they may go get another receiver for Jordan Love/Josh Jacobs on Thursday night.

But for whatever reason, Bleacher Report has made it their mission to put a stop to that. In a recent list they published titled, '1 Prospect Each Team Must Avoid in 2025 NFL Draft,' B/R does their best Well, Actually bit while explaining why it's a bad idea for them to take a wide receiver in the first round – more specifically, Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka, who's long been a popular pick in Packers mock drafts. It's exactly as much of a buzzkill as you're expecting it to be.

"The Green Bay Packers could used another wide receiver even with all of the young talent the team currently fields. However, the squad truly needs a ball-winning X-receiver, who can work on the outside and win one-on-one matchups," writes Brent Sobleski of B/R. "Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka may be the safest pick in this year's draft class. He's an outstanding route-runner, with a defined role the moment he walks into an NFL locker room. What he's not is the type of wide receiver that Green Bay needs at the moment."

It's genuinely hilarious how their entire write up on Egbuka is overwhelmingly complimentary, only for them to turnaround and be, like, 'but none of that matters, and they shouldn't draft him.' It is a legitimately good bit. To recap: the Packers could use another wide receiver, and there's nothing to not like about Egbuka, but when you put those two tiny silly facts aside, you'll soon realize that drafting him doesn't make sense. Sure!

Credit where it's due: B/R will let it rip. As we start a four-day wait where literally any draft-related content becomes BREAKING NEWS, the fine folks at B/R clearly know the part they play in the ecosystem. They'll make content, I'll (lightly) mock said content, and then the Packers will draft some guard on Thursday night. The world keeps spinning.
