The Green Bay Packers have one of the deepest wide receiver depth charts in football, which could make Romeo Doubs a potential trade piece. Selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Nevada product has become a solid starter who won’t set the world on fire but can be a reliable second or third option in the passing attack.
Aaron Rodgers Trade to the Jets Reportedly ‘Essentially Done'
However, he probably won’t have the opportunity to play up to his potential in 2025. After adding first-round pick Matthew Golden and third-round pick Savion Williams in the NFL Draft, Green Bay has too many talented pass-catchers to go around. With Romeo Doubs frustrated, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton proposed a trade between the Packers and the Tennessee Titans.
“Doubs can carve out a sizable role with the Titans as their No. 2 receiver behind Calvin Ridley,” Moton writes. “He has much greater potential on a squad that needs help at his position.”
It’s easy to see why the Titans are a popular trade destination for Romeo Doubs. Following a disastrous 2024, Tennessee used the first-overall pick on Cam Ward in hopes that he could become their next franchise quarterback. While Ward offers more upside and a higher floor than Will Levis, he won’t succeed with a poor supporting cast. Calvin Ridley is a reliable WR1, but the rest of the depth chart needs some help.
As of this posting, Van Jefferson and Tyler Lockett are fighting for the starting spot opposite Ridley in this offense. Jefferson has never been anything more than an unremarkable depth option, and while Lockett used to be a reliable weapon, he started to slow down in recent years. Tennessee has a habit of bringing in once-great receivers well past their prime, and Lockett seems to be the next player to suit up with the Titans before quietly retiring.
Romeo Doubs is no superstar, but a trade would give Cam Ward some much-needed security at the receiver position. This team probably won’t compete for a division title in 2025, so the main focus should be on ensuring Ward can grow into a reliable starter. The best way to do that is to support his development, and Doubs should increase his odds of becoming the team’s long-awaited answer under center.
Of course, nothing will happen if the Green Bay Packers don’t agree to a Romeo Doubs trade. With that being said, this team has every reason to maximize their return for Doubs’ services. The wide receiver is entering the final year of his contract, and the Golden and Williams draft picks suggest Doubs is not in the team’s long-term plans. Rather than watching him walk for nothing, the Packers should receive a draft pick for his services.
Even without Doubs on the roster, the Packers have plenty of reliable wide receivers. In addition to the two aforementioned draft picks, Jordan Love also has Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, and tight end Tucker Kraft as proven targets. Ultimately, Romeo Doubs is worth more to the Titans than the Packers, and a trade would make all the sense in the world.
