The Green Bay Packers lost to the Minnesota Vikings 31-29 on Sunday. In the game, Brayden Narveson missed two critical field goals. He has already missed four field goals in four games this season.
Narveson was with the Tennessee Titans in training camp. Green Bay had Anders Carlson, Greg Joseph, and other kickers during training camp before the start of the 2024 season.
Green Bay Packers Workout Two Kickers Amidst Brayden Narveson’s Struggles Ahead Of the Week 5 Matchup Against the Los Angeles Rams
On Tuesday, the Packers decided to workout two kickers ahead of the Week 5 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. According to ESPN, Green Bay worked out Chad Ryland and Lucas Havrisik. Ryland played for the New England Patriots last season and was a rookie. He made 16-of-25 field goals and 24-of-25 extra point attempts.
As for Havrisik, he was an undrafted free agent in 2022 and kicked for the Los Angeles Rams last season. Havrisik kicked 15-of-20 field goals and made 19-of-22 extra-point attempts. For now, they will stick with Brayden Narveson at field goal kicker, but don’t be surprised if they bring these two kickers in again if they struggle in Week 5 against the Rams.
Narveson Speaks To the Media
Brayden Narveson said to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
“I care, right? That’s the hardest part. You do this every day, seven days a week, 80 hours, whatever it is. You care. Yeah, it’s hard to be positive, but again, I go back to a family. I go back to a life. I have a very good support system around me. I gotta look myself in the mirror again and go back to work this week and do better.”
If Narveson misses more kicks this week, the question about the field goal-kicking position will only get louder for head coach Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers. He and general manager Brian Gutekunst will have decisions to make if there is another flop in Week 5 of the NFL season.
