The Green Bay Packers have been linked to Myles Garrett since the all-world defensive end first requested a trade in the opening days of February. Since then, no substantial news around the situation has broke, until Friday, when the Cleveland Browns owner made headlines with his unwillingness to even meet with Garrett to discuss the situation.

Cleveland Browns Owner Denies Myles Garrett a Meeting to Discuss Trade Request

The Cleveland Browns have long been considered one of the worst organizations in the NFL, and drama continues to circle their ownership and front office. The team’s owner, Jimmy Haslam, has reportedly denied Garrett a meeting with him to discuss the trade request.

If Garrett’s motivations for leaving did not include the headache of dealing with the team’s owner, it is likely on his list of reasons now. In his initial statement cited his unwillingness to be “complacent” and his desire to win as reasons for wanting to move on, but being disrespected by the team’s owner is only more likely to make him want out.

Green Bay Packers Continue to be in the Myles Garrett Sweepstakes

The Green Bay Packers have long been linked to massive trades this offseason, namely for players like Garrett or Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf. In either case, the price will be massive.

Green Bay has plenty of decent pass-rushers on the team already, led by players like Rashan Gary, but the thought that they do not need to upgrade at that position would be misguided. In any case, Garrett has been one of the best defensive players in the league since he was drafted 1st overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

It would appear that the organization is not very pleased about Garrett’s desire to leave, which could result in a stubborn stalemate that may involve Garrett holding out and missing games in the 2025-26 season. Rarely would a player rescind a trade request, especially after ownership blatantly souring any attempt at compromise.

However it plays out, the fact that Haslam will not even meet with Garrett is extremely strange and also contradictory. NFL Network’s James Palmer outlines the context of the peculiar decision:

“So let me get this straight. Your best player is upset and doesn’t want to play for you anymore. He’d like to talk to you about his frustration. Instead of meeting with him, and perhaps attempting to change his mind or start a more amicable dialogue, you refuse? While at the same time proclaiming he’s very important to your future and how much you value him.”

It’s likely that some team, possibly the Green Bay Packers, will eventually benefit from Garrett’s deteriorating relationship with the Browns. When players of his caliber try to force a trade, they usually get their way. The question is: how much longer will it take? How much more dramatic can it get? What will the eventual price be?
