Packers Preseason Game Preview vs Denver Broncos

Coming off a very nice 23-10 preseason victory last week against the Cleveland Browns, the Green Bay Packers hit the road this week again for their second preseason game. They will take on the Denver Broncos tomorrow night. The two teams held a joint practice on Friday. It does not sounds like many Packers starters will play on this game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM. Here is a preview of tomorrow night’s game.

Green Bay Packers Positions Battles Still Up For Grabs

Going into the Cleveland game, offensive line positions and the kicker battle were headlines. After that game, it doesn’t appear anyone separated themselves with the exception of rookie offensive lineman Jacob Monk. The fifth round pick played really well and is likely close to locking up a roster spot.

With the high altitude in Denver, I wonder if that will play an advantage for Anders Carlson. No doubt he will have the chance to hit from 60 yards, but can he be accurate? Distance has never been an issue. On the other hand, Greg Joseph has been quietly as productive, if not a little more productive.

Is there really backup quarterback battle brewing in Green Bay? Rookie Michael Pratt had a really goo week of practice where Sean Clifford looked to have struggled again. Ideally, you won’t to keep three quarterbacks on your 53 man roster, but it feels like that is moving in that direction. Clifford will likely get the start tomorrow, but there will be plenty of Pratt.

The Green Bay Packers Against Bo Nix

After following tweets of the joint practice Friday, Bo Nix will likely win the starting quarterback job. It also appears Nix will get the start tomorrow. There is no doubt he can be a threat with arm and his legs.

If Nix gets the nod tomorrow, I have to think the Broncos will play their offensive starters too. If that is the case, it should be a good test for the Green Bay Packers defense, who will be playing a ton of their reserves tomorrow as well.

Just like last week, the result of this game doesn’t matter. From the Green Bay Packers side, this will likely be a game where the players battling for roster spots will play a majority of the game. It feels that next week’s preseason home game will be the dress rehearsal where the starters play more.

I don’ think any position battles will be decided by the end of this game, but I want to see players begin to separate themselves. I also want to see as injury-free of a game as possible.
