The Green Bay Packers are in the middle of a key offseason where they attempt to transition from an overachiever to a contender. After spending over 100 million dollars on free-agent talent along with drafting 11 different players in the 2024 draft, the Packers turn to tune the rookies into the NFL game. As we see the rookies put in time at rookie minicamps and OTA’s, we also observe the Packers’ signings of the new additions.

With nearly all of the Green Bay Packers draft picks inking deals, there are a few more to go before the 2024 preseason. Only a few of the Packers from the 2024 draft class remain unsigned, though, on May 23rd we saw one of the premier draft picks of the Packers get signed.

The Green Bay Packers were mocked to get Edgerrin Cooper in the first round by many, instead, they played the waiting game and were able to obtain him for the 45th pick as opposed to the 25th. The consensus number one off-ball linebacker in the NFL draft became the first off-ball linebacker off the board later than many expected.

The production of Texas A&M’s Edgerrin Cooper in college was undeniable, leading the SEC team in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, and forced fumbles. His good size and top-tier athleticism pair perfectly with his desire to pursue football, Cooper will find significant snaps in the linebacker position and likely special teams very quickly. Needing the direction and discipline to stay consistently in plays, Cooper is not a perfect prospect but is certainly an exciting one for the Packers to acquire at such a good value, particularly for the new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s 4-3 base scheme

After seeing him show up to rookie minicamps and OTAs in playing shape, flying around with conviction, the Packers inked a deal with the highly touted off-ball linebacker.

Edgerrin Cooper’s signing leaves only Packers first-round pick Jordan Morgan and second-round pick safety Javon Bullard unsigned from the 2024 draft class, but with plenty of time left it appears the Packers will agree to contract with all 11 of their 2024 selections.
