The Green Bay Packers will begin a mandatory minicamp next week. Green Bay has gone through OTAs over the past couple of weeks. There have been some players that have stood out and there are some other players who have not stood out so far.
The Green Bay Packers will have quite a bit of competition next week and throughout the training camp period. Iron will sharpen iron and it will make this football team better. Head coach Matt LaFleur will be entering his sixth season as head coach of the Packers.
One of the positions that will have major question marks heading into training camp next month will be cornerback. They did not do enough this offseason to address the position.
Green Bay Packers Cornerback Eric Stokes Might Lose His Cornerback Job
At the start of OTAs, it looked as if Stokes was regaining his confidence and there was no doubt that he is going to be one of the starting cornerbacks this season for the Green Bay Packers. It may now be a different story before the start of the 2024 season.
According to Brian Sampson of dairylandexpress.com, he believes that Packers cornerback Eric Stokes is one of three players on the roster who is on thin ice following OTAs. Sampson said:
“Although the Packers didn’t draft a cornerback this year, all eyes are glued to Eric Stokes in 2024 like it’s the latest season of a hit reality show.
The former first-round pick has spent the last two years in an on-again, off-again relationship with the injury list, which has practically ghosted him from the field. As a result, Green Bay swiped left on his fifth-year option, making him a free agent after this season.
With Jaire Alexander taking a breather during OTAs this week, Stokes was thrust into the spotlight, starting at cornerback opposite Carrington Valentine. The two promise to be in a heated battle for one of the two starting outside jobs, with the loser likely demoted to nickel back.
Tuesday’s practice turned up the heat. Stokes got torched by Bo Melton for a massive touchdown, which had the offense celebrating like they’d just won the lottery.
Meanwhile, Valentine was everywhere, sticking to wide receivers like glue and letting them know all about it. Valentine’s brimming with confidence after a stellar rookie campaign—something Stokes seems to be running low on right now.”
Carrington Valentine is currently listed second on the Green Bay Packers depth chart at the cornerback position. Valentine could beat out Stokes for the Packers’ starting job. If Carrington Valentine wins the starting job in training camp, Green Bay may cut Eric Stokes out right before the start of the 2024 season.
