Packers News: NFL Analyst Suggests Los Angeles Chargers Trade For a Wide Receiver

The Green Bay Packers have a ton of depth at the wide receiver position and the Los Angeles Chargers do not. Entering the 2024 season, both teams will have high expectations. A season ago, both teams met during the regular season and the Packers won the game over the Chargers 23-20.

Jordan Love and Justin Herbert both don’t have true number-one wide receiver options entering the 2024 season. Can someone emerge as the top receiver target for both teams at some point this season?

Bleacher Report Writer Alex Kay Suggests That the Los Angeles Chargers Should Trade For Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Bo Melton

Bleacher Report writer Alex Kay suggested a trade for each NFL team before the start of the 2024 season. For the Los Angeles Chargers, he thinks that the Chargers should trade away a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Green Bay Packers for wide receiver Bo Melton. Kay said:

“The Los Angeles Chargers have arguably the weakest receiver room in the NFL right now, making it a sensible option to negotiate a trade with a team that boasts perhaps the league’s deepest group of pass-catchers.

The Green Bay Packers have a loaded receiving corps, one that has talent well beyond their top four returning weapons from last year. The team will have a tough time figuring out who to keep on the roster from a group that includes Grant DuBose, Malik Heath, Bo Melton and Samori Toure.

Rather than cut one of these serviceable wideouts, the Packers should be making calls and finding takers. Melton should be of particular interest for the Chargers, who would easily find a spot on their 53-man roster as a WR4 well worthy of a late-Day 3 pick.

Melton, a 2022 seventh-round pick, saw his first NFL action last year—garnering 218 yards and a score on 16 receptions in five games. Those are respectable numbers, stats he could quickly build on by becoming a key part of an L.A. offense desperate for receiver help.”

Green Bay kept six wide receivers on the roster and not seven. Grant DuBose did not make the 53-man roster for the Green Bay Packers. Jayden Reed, Bo Melton, Dontayvion Wicks, Malik Heath, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs made the roster for the wide receiver position.

At the moment, Melton is the fifth wide receiver on the Packers. If he were to get traded to the Los Angeles Chargers, Bo Melton could receive a bigger role with them.

A season ago, the Los Angeles Chargers had Mike Williams and Keenan Allen on the roster, but they are both not on the team anymore. The starting wide receivers for the Chargers are rookie Ladd McConkey, D.J. Chark Jr., and Joshua Palmer. Quentin Johnson is the fourth wide receiver on Los Angeles’s roster.

There is no doubt that Bo Melton could provide a boost to the Chargers offense. It would be a good move for the Chargers, but the Packers would maybe want to fetch a better return than a seventh-round pick in 2025 for Bo Melton.
