The Green Bay Packers made one of the most interesting moves this offseason by signing running back Josh Jacobs on the free agent market. Jacobs played with the Las Vegas Raiders before coming to the Packers. When he was signed, the Packers released running back Aaron Jones.

Jones then signed with the Minnesota Vikings after being released. Green Bay improved the running back room this offseason. Not only they did sign Jacobs, but they also drafted Marshawn Lloyd in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of USC. Surprisingly, they also re-signed A.J. Dillon to a one-year deal.

Many Green Bay Packers fans thought that he was not going to come back this season. However, Dillon could still be cut or traded before the start of the 2024 season. Lloyd has missed time in training camp with a hip injury.

Bleacher Report Writer Gary Davenport Thinks That Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Is Going To Be a Bust This Season For Fantasy

Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport listed nine different NFL players who could potentially be busts in fantasy football leagues this season. He thinks that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs will be a fantasy bust this season. Just two years ago, he led the league in rushing with 1,653 yards but only had 805 yards rushing last season with the Raiders.

Davenport said:

“The Green Bay Packers and fantasy managers alike both appear to have lofty expectations for running back Josh Jacobs.

The Pack thought enough of the 26-year-old to give him $12 million per season to replace Aaron Jones as their lead running back. Fantasy managers think enough of Jacobs operating as the lead back for a potentially potent Green Bay offense to draft him in low-end RB1 territory.

On some level, that’s understandable. Two years ago, Jacobs led the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards and averaged almost five yards per carry. But that massive season was followed by a contract holdout and down 2023 season that has the folks at FantasyPros concerned about Jacobs’ prospects in 2024.”

Jacobs will be the first running back on the Green Bay Packers depth chart. A.J. Dillon is currently second and Marshawn Lloyd is currently third on the depth chart. Green Bay may throw it through the air a lot with quarterback Jordan Love, which makes the wide receivers on the roster more favorable for fantasy football this season.

Some may take Jacobs in the first round of fantasy leagues. Davenport also added:

“Lloyd isn’t the only one who could steal carries from Jacobs. AJ Dillon is back in Titletown and is reportedly looking great in camp.

Head coach Matt LaFleur has already stated that all three Packers backs will see work this season. That won’t make it easy for Jacobs to live up to his draft-day cost.”

There is no doubt that Lloyd is in the Packers’ plans this season when he can finally get back on the practice field. Josh Jacobs should be a three-down back in this offense but Green Bay never operates that way.
