The Green Bay Packers are 2-2 on the season following their 31-29 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. They are looking to get back in the win column this weekend on the road when they visit the Los Angeles Rams. Currently, things are looking up for the Packers as quarterback Jordan Love continues to improve as he continues to come back from a sprained MCL.

Green Bay, though, does not have history on their side this weekend. The Packers have not defeated the Rams in Los Angeles since 1966. Of course, the franchise spent two decades in St. Louis, during which time Green Bay was 4-2 when visiting the Rams. In Los Angeles, though, the Packers are 0-14 since the days of Bart Starr.

The Green Bay Packers Will Be Without Wide Receiver Christian Watson vs the Los Angeles Rams

During the Packers’ loss to the Vikings, wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a brutal lower leg injury attempting to make a catch while in triple coverage. When the play first happened, it looked as if he might have suffered a season-ending injury.

Thankfully, though, he was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain. While this injury will require him to miss some time, it is a far better outcome than being out for the year.

Watson, who is in his third season with Green Bay since they took him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has battled soft tissue injuries since coming into the NFL. Over the summer, he visited a hamstring specialist at the University of Wisconsin in Madison to figure out what was wrong.

After some tests, it was revealed that one of Watson’s legs was significantly stronger than the other, causing the hamstrings in his weaker leg to overexert themselves.

Exactly how much time Watson will miss with this ankle injury is unknown.

Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Says Christian Watson Will Not Go on IR

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the media following practice on Wednesday. Of course, Watson did not practice due to his injury, instead working out with other players rehabbing from injuries.

The good news, LaFleur reported, is that Watson is not expected to go on injured reserve due to his injury:

Matt LaFleur indicates Christian Watson won’t go on IR.

“I think we got lucky. We dodged a real bullet there.”

Still waiting for more info to see if Devonte Wyatt will be as fortunate.

In 2022, Watson’s fellow rookie wide receiver, Romeo Doubs, missed three games with a high ankle sprain. Since players put on injured reserve need to miss at least four games, the Packers must expect Watson back in a similar time frame.
