Packers News: Jordan Love’s New Weapon Shares Honest Observation of City

The Green Bay Packers invested significantly in the wide receiver position in the recently concluded 2025 NFL draft. After not getting a wideout in the first round in over two decades, Green Bay ended that trend by selecting former Texas Longhorns star wide receiver Matthew Golden with the 23rd overall pick in the draft.

Two picks later, the Packers spent another pick on a wide receiver, as they got TCU Horned Frogs in the third round as the No. 87 selection overall.

There will be plenty of adjustments to be made by Williams as he goes from the college ranks to the pros, but one that could help him integrate faster with his new surroundings is his familiarity an environment that’s similar with Green Bay’s.

A native of Marshall, Texas, with a population just over 24,000, Williams said Green Bay “felt like home,” and now it is.

“I’m from a small town and this (has) small-town type vibe,” he said. “So just being around here and seeing how tight the town was and hearing how fans are and everything … I like that type.”

Savion Williams’ blend of size and explosiveness could turn heads in rookie season with the Green Bay Packers

Standing 6’4”, Williams gives the Packers a tall target that can create mismatches downfield. If he could develop chemistry right away with quarterback Jordan Love, Williams could be a sleeper weapon that can catch opposing teams by surprise in 2025.

In five seasons with the Horned Frogs, Williams collected 1,655 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 137 receptions through 52 games. The bulk of that production came in his final two seasons in college, during which he amassed 1,184 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 101 catches in 23 outings.
