To say that the Green Bay Packers had a rough day at the office, so to speak” during an NFL preseason loss on the road at the hands of the Denver Broncos last Sunday would be a huge understatement. The Packers just did not have it in that game, which they lost to the tune of a 27-2 score.

Just ahead of the Packers’ preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens this Saturday, Green Bay defensive back Keisean Nixon admitted that his team was just not itself in the Denver game. Nixon seemingly blamed the Mile High City’s altitude as well for that forgettable performance by the Packers, while also mentioning the energy of Green Bay during the joint practice with Baltimore.

“I feel like Denver, we was kind of laggy,” Nixon said about Packers’ defeat to the Broncos, per Green Bay beat reporter Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.

“Altitude and then not really having a lot of time practicing there, that’ll catch you off guard, but today we’re in our own element, so we came to play.”

It is worth noting, though, that the Packers played their reserves in the meeting with the Broncos, who had some of their starters playing. Still, putting up just two points was way below what many expected Green Bay to manufacture, even when considering the circumstances.

“That was a long night,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said after the game, per Mike Spofford of Packers.com. “Certainly I was hoping our guys would come out with more strain, effort, and grit after kind of getting humbled the other day in practice. To have it happen again, not where we want to be. I think it’s a good lesson for our guys.”

Green Bay will look to close out its preseason schedule with a much better showing

The Packers, who won in Week 1 of the NFL preseason over the Cleveland Browns (23-10) on the road, have a chance to make a statement this Saturday versus the Ravens at Lambeau Field. Although preseason games are not usually used as a barometer for a team’s true form, it is still better for the Packers to go out with a victory before spending the rest of the offseason making final preparations for the 2024 campaign.
