The Green Bay Packers have accomplished just about every single one of their offseason goals. First, they made the popular decision to part ways with embattled defensive coordinator Joe Barry and replaced him with Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley. They also took a rare dive into the deep end of free agency, signing the best safety (Xavier McKinney) and the best running back (Josh Jacobs) on the market.

In the midst of these moves, Green Bay restocked their offensive line and safety room via the 2024 NFL Draft. Additionally, the Packers sent oft-injured players Christian Watson and Eric Stokes to the University of Wisconsin in Madison to figure out why they were experiencing so many hamstring issues.

The Packers also made some unfortunate and tough decisions this offseason, parting ways with left tackle David Bakhtiari and running back Aaron Jones. Both players were immensely popular with the fans and still quite good when they were healthy.

Now, there is one thing left to do: extend starting quarterback Jordan Love.

The talk surrounding Love’s upcoming contract extension has been going on for months. After he put together the best season by a first-year starter in Packers history, no one seriously expected him to go into the 2024 season without a new deal.

The biggest question, though, has been how much will Love get paid? When the offseason first started, some estimated that he may make between $46-48 million per season. However, Jared Goff’s extension with the Detroit Lions that will pay him $53 million per year had some predicting Love would make more than $50 million annually.

On Thursday afternoon, though, Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars agreed to a deal that may drive Love’s price up even more:

The $55 million per year that Lawrence will make ties Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals for the highest annual salary for any player in the NFL.

So now the new question is will Love make as much (or more) as Lawrence, or will sign for less than $55 million? Does Love deserve to be paid like Lawrence?

Will Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Be One of the Highest Paid Players in the NFL?

It is true that Lawrence has two more years of starting experience than Love, but it is interesting that the Packers quarterback outperformed him in just about every way last season:

  Jordan Love Trevor Lawrence
Completion % 64.1% 65.6%
Passing Yards 4,159 4,016
Touchdowns 32 21
Interceptions 11 14
Passer Rating 96.1 88.5

Based on these numbers, it is clear that Love is on par with Lawrence production-wise, but Green Bay may not want to make him the top-paid quarterback in the NFL after just one year of starting. That being said, it is becoming more and more apparent that Love is going to make $50+ million annually on his next contract.

And that contract will be signed before training camp, per both Love and general manager Brian Gutekunst.
