Packers: Christian Watson Makes Boneheaded Decision During Tuesday’s Practice

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson will be with the first unit this season. Watson had a very disappointing second NFL season because of hamstring injuries. He only caught 28 passes for 422 yards receiving and five touchdowns, along with averaging 15.1 yards per reception. Christian Watson was targeted 53 times.

We will see what happens in his third NFL season. This is a huge year for him because if he is injured again, it will be interesting to see whether or not Watson will be on the roster for much longer. There was a lot of promise with him after his rookie season, but the sophomore slump was real for him. He was mentioned in several trade rumors this offseason.

For now, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed will be the top receivers on the roster, with Dontayvion Wicks in the mix. Doubs appears to be separating himself from everyone else as the number one option on the roster for a team that does not have a true number one wide receiver at the moment

According to Matt Schneideman of The Athletic, practice ended on Tuesday with Eric Stokes intercepting Jordan Love on the goal line. Christian Watson was supposed to cut in on the play and he never did. This was very similar toward the end of the game last season against the Pittsburgh Steelers where Loev targeted Watson and was picked off.

Watson told Schneidman after practice was over about that play saying:

“Mainly, it was just a timing thing for me. I thought I would have a little bit more time to work the route, but it was all-out pressure. I just gotta get in there a little bit quicker. Was thinking I could work the route at the top a little bit. Just gotta speed cut and get in there. It was on me, though.”

This is not the first time that this has been an issue with Watson. Last season, Jordan Love had the lowest passer rating when targeting him. He was very good when targeting other wide receivers like Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks. Hopefully, Love does not throw interceptions this season because Christian Watson ran the wrong routes.

Sadly, this may not be the last time we hear about it in either training camp or the season. The Green Bay Packers believe that Watson can turn it around this season. It remains to be seen if he will turn it around or not.
