With The Golden Bachelor season 2 on the horizon, ABC announced Mel as their next lead. The former football player turned lawyer is a divorcee with two children. Though the date of the new season hasn't been announced, fans can expect the highly anticipated show to premiere sometime in the fall or winter of 2025. Though Mel has many great attributes that make him the perfect Bachelor lead, there are also reasons to think he isn't well suited to finding love on the show. Read on to see why I think Mel will walk away from The Bachelor mansion empty-handed.
Mel Owens Is New To Bachelor Nation
Many Of Joan Vassos' Cast-Offs Were No Longer Eligible
ABC announced the identity of Gerry's replacement on The Golden Bachelor season 2, and I'm glad they cast a fresh face. Though many fans, myself included, expected them to cast a contestant from The Golden Bachelorette season 1, the show's producers decided to go a different way by casting a newcomer to Bachelor Nation. Mel Owens has never appeared on a Bachelor franchise show, and I'm glad they didn't choose one of Joan Vassos' cast-offs.
Mel's Ex-Wife is 20 Years Younger Than He Is
He's Got A Type
Mel is a divorced single dad who was married for 25 years. After recently discovering that his ex-wife was 20 years his junior, I've become convinced that he won't find love on The Golden Bachelor season 2. The couple married when Mel was 41, and his ex-wife, Fabiana Pimentel, was only 21 years old. To me, this means Mel prefers much younger women. I don't see him deciding to marry a woman anywhere near his age, but I'd love to be proven wrong. Unless ABC casts much younger women, my money's on Mel walking away empty-handed.
Mel Is Unlikely To Find True Love On The Show
He Was Married To "His First Love"
Considering Mel's past, he would prefer a woman in her 40s, but that would no longer be sticking to the concept of the show.
Since Mel is 66 years old, producers of The Golden Bachelor season 2 will likely cast women who are in their 50s and 60s. Considering Mel's past, he would prefer a woman in her 40s, but that would no longer be sticking to the concept of the show. The whole point of the show is to introduce singles who are in their golden years, which isn't women in their 40s. It remains to be seen if Mel's first marriage was an anomaly or if he just prefers younger women.
