One Caleb Williams' stat from Week 5 that proves bust is no longer on the table

Before turning the page to the Chicago Bears' Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, there is one more Caleb Williams' stat from his Week 5 performance against the Carolina Panthers that must be praised.

Carolina Panthers v Chicago Bears

During the first two weeks of the season, the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans seemed to provide a blueprint on how to confuse Williams. Both teams bombarded Williams and the Bears' offense with blitz packages, resulting in the rookie quarterback struggling when faced with pressure.

That wasn't the case this past Sunday for Williams against the Panthers. In fact, during Week 5, Williams was one of the best quarterbacks against the blitz.

Caleb Williams' growth is undeniable

Williams was nearly perfect when faced with the blitz on Sunday. It is one of the reasons why Williams being a bust is no longer on the table. Before we dive into the reason why the idea of Williams being a bust can be discarded, note that the Bears' rookie quarterback was top among all rookie quarterbacks against the blitz on Sunday.

One of the biggest points of contention with Justin Fields and Mitch Trubisky is the lack of awareness they showed while playing the quarterback position. Whether it was Fields or Trubisky, each quarterback seemed to panic when the pocket collapsed. In Trubisky's case, that often led to errant throws down the field while Fields elected to leave the pocket and make a play on the ground.

That hasn't been the case for Williams. One of the things that has been most impressive about Williams is the poise that he has under center. Williams doesn't panic when faced with pressure. Instead, Williams carves out space in the pocket and continues to keep his head upright, looking for a play down the field. There is no greater example of that than his touchdown pass to DJ Moore against the Panthers.

The growth Bears fans have seen from Williams since the start of the season is real. Fans don't have to squint to see development or trick themselves into thinking they are seeing something that isn't there. Williams is the real deal.
