Once Caleb Williams masters the boring stuff, he’ll be terrifying

On her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll talked with Tyler Forness, who covers the Minnesota Vikings for Vikings 1st and Skol and SKOR North, and he covers the NFL Draft for A to Z Sports. They preview Sunday’s Chicago Bears game, but Tyler also gives his thoughts on Chicago’s recent first-round draft picks.

“The way I describe Caleb Williams’ play style at USC is he wanted every play to get on ESPN’s Sportscenter top 10, and he was way less willing to just ‘hey, here’s 10 yards, let’s just move on.’ He was way less willing to do that, and so was Patrick Mahomes. Those two will be compared forever because of their raw ability.”

Williams has had some ups and downs this season, but that’s expected.

“He’s a rookie. I don’t care if it’s not all the way there yet. I just wanna see growth. I want to see a palatable development with those skills,” Forness said on the podcast. “Can you do the boring stuff? Will you do the boring stuff? When he starts doing that, I will be terrified because he can do the other stuff. He can make these 40-yard throws and drop it in a bucket. He can make these off-platform throws where all of a sudden you think, ‘hey, I think he’s getting sacked,’ and all of a sudden, it’s a 30-yard laser.”

He’s also high on Chicago’s other first-round pick.

“God, feed Rome Odunze. That dude is special. He is so good.”
